| Hey, sorry it took so long to add to that last post. God
doesn't always deal wisdom out to me on call. It seems to come
unexpected. Tonight, it came while I was at work. I work at a
call center, and we were low on calls, so basically, I got taken off
the phones and was payed to sit and think and pray for an hour and a
half. A blessing of a job, anyway, on to the continued post.
Reprecussions:
1) Confusion of Motives:
There is a
distinct difference between Christian motives and humanistic motives
that has become all too subtle. Constant chatter of "the abundant
life" has overshadowed the shouldering of our crosses. Dreams of our
personal heavens have all but snuffed out the songs of the angels'. The
cornerstone of Christian belief is that God's glory is THE concern
of his children. Our actions at skin level may appear humanistic,
which is why it's become so hard to see but the motive MUST be God's glory, and that alone.
2)Confused Expectations of Christian Lifestyle
What should we
expect from the Christian life? We know that the churches promies
peace, prosperity, direction, community, acceptance & happiness.
Some of these things come close to the Biblical image of the gospel but
even those are distorted or misrepresented. I can think of no
time at which I experienced any of those blessings in a tangible way
for more than a temporary period. While theChurch's promises are
similar to the gospel's, they are not the promises nor reality of a
life of faith.
3)A "Me" Attitude
Whethere
it is a full-blown selfishness or just a childish understanding of our
role with God, a humanistic approach to Christianity seems to have
produced an almost complete role reversal between us and God. In
some it comes to the point that the attitude from action to prayer to
thought life becomes not "What is God doing?", or "How will God get
glory out of this?", or "How can I benifit from this?". Instead
it's "What is God doing for me?" or "How can I benifit from this?" or
"Why didn't God make this better?". They seem to have such a
confused view of the God Vs. Human relationship that if they were to
analyze the underlying thoughts they would see that they had so twisted
God's love to have God sitting on the throne surrounded by legions of
singing angels all for the higher goal of the happiness and fulfilment
of man.

| Fundamental Flaws In The American Church:
A number of my friends, along with myself have spent years
discussing our discontent and what we believe to be God's discontent
with the American Church/churches. Following is the begginning of
an outline of thought's I've had on the subject. Please note:
This is the beginning. Also,
these are merely my thoughts and what I have found to be true. If
you disagree, please leave a comment, maybe you'll open my eyes to
something, or vice versa.
A.Focus On Humanism:
1. Humanism: the doctrine that people's duty is to promote human welfare above all other duties.
A. Seeking fulfilment in this life ("the abundant life")
-or-
B. Seeking fulfilment in the after life (heaven)
2.Reprecussions:
1. Confusion of motives.
2. Confused expectations of Christian lifestyle.
3. Bitter false converts.
4. A "me" attitude.
5. No growth to spiritual maturity.
6. Apathy towards ministry.
7. Self-Righteousness
8. Inability to see "big picture".
9. Legalism.
3.Resolution:
1. Biblical presentation of the gospel.
2. Teach, don't baby new Christians.
3. ....
